1.
Dutch Teens Arrested After Videoed Attacks Are Placed
Online
Short Summary
Several
Dutch teens in Groningen province filmed the attacks on other teens and it was placed
on the Facebook; in one of the videos, the filmed suspect is under custody, and
all other four students are suspended from school. Those videos were also shared by pupils
online, which made the victim’s parents make a formal complaint to the police.
Persuasive Paragraph
It was
quite surprising for me that Netherlands also has a severe juvenile delinquency
closely related to school liked the suggested article, because I never thought
of other developed countries like Netherlands having such a dark side in its
safe and progressive policies. I suggest the overall world students in their
young ages are wandering about in their confusing teen lives. I understand in
some point those suspects did not do those bad things because they were evils
and some might say it needs some generosity toward them; however, I believe the
Dutch schools should pose stronger and more strict punishments upon these kinds
of teenagers and the Korea should appreciate the previous examples of
Netherlands to change their plain and too-generous attitude toward the juvenile
delinquency.

2. The Netherlands Is 3rd Most Competitive
Nation in Europe
Short Summary
The
Netherlands ranked the third most competitive nation among the EU countries, overtaking
Denmark by moving up one place on the index for two recent years. The new place
can largely be due to strong technological performances boosted by an
impressive university system and high levels of social inclusion and so forth,
but it showed low rank upon the sustainability issue.
Persuasive Paragraph
At
first when I chose the article, I had a little bit of doubt about the
effectiveness of ranking the country. I thought it was sometimes very
misleading to see a certain nation seeming to be superior to other countries by
just being below the ranking in some senses. However, it is quite interesting
and noticeable that the Netherlands itself ranked higher, which proved to be performing
quite better than it did in several sectors like technology and social
inclusion. Yet, I wonder why it ranked so low in the environmental sustainability,
because Netherlands makes me think of cleaner air and beautiful, clean
surroundings.

3. World Cup 2014: Netherlands Routs Spain
5-1
Short Summary
The
strong Spanish soccer teams' underperformed due to some of their members and
turned out to be beated by the Dutch soccer team; Spain abandoned its unique
quick-passing style, and as a result, 'Once-invincible' Spain suffered from
catastrophe this year and failed to get to the next round.
Persuasive Paragraph
The
article points out that the Dutch team winning the game by landslide was due to
the Spanish team's fault, but I rather think that the Dutch team performed best
and achieved their success. Everybody know that Netherlands is also very
popular with their soccer teams and players, and the article made me a little
uncomfortable by consistently arguing as if Netherlands won the game by luck.
It remains whether the next rounds will do as expected.

4. Public Transport Firms Earn Big on
Forgetful Passengers
Short Summary
Many
people in Netherlands are still not used to the OV-Chipkaart system, which is
the current Dutch public transport checkout systems for measuring the travel
distance and charging according to it; many transportation firms are earning as
much as 22,9 million euros per year from passengers who forget to check out
when they get out of the station.
Persuasive Paragraph
I was
very confused when Seoul changed the charging method for the city
transportation and I often forgot to check out when leaving the bus and subway
station. The exact same thing happens very commonly to Dutch people, I suggest;
although it was after about several years that the new charging method was
introduced, I still see many people forgetting to put their wallets out and
touch the machine in Korea. In this case, I want the Dutch government to lower
the checkout penalty when their citizens forgot it, as well as making sure that
they become more careful about that. 23 Million euros per year is too much for
punishing the people who cannot be free from busy and forgetful lives.
