1.     윤종신(Yoon Jong Shin) w/ Kelly_ 왠지 그럼 안될 것 같아(It somehow feels like I should not love you)

The first music is one of songs from the Artist Yoon’s project albums; instead of Kelly, the singer of this song, his name shows up. This song is mainly about the story of a woman who loves a man, whom she feels she should not love. She cannot express her true love for him, and continuously blame herself for not having any tolerance for her secret.


I’ve always loved his way of singing timid love stories. As one of those timid lovers, it made me so sympathetic to listen to him. This time he borrowed voice of Kelly’s, who is a Chinese actress, and showed another timid ways of loving somebody. Her amateur vocal emphasized the sad mood, which moved me so much for more than several days. Nevertheless, Kelly’s accent is very unfamiliar and exotic when speaking Korean and it is said to screw up the original feeling of the song by some critics. I still love this song, though.

2.    개리(Gary) & 정인(Jung-in)_ 사람냄새(Your scent)

This song deals with a happy love story of humane couple. The title of the song literally means ‘human scent’, which often means kind and warm-hearted personality in Korean. The overall atmosphere is very positive and happy with catchy rhythms, and the woman and the man each says that she/he likes the ‘kind and lovely you.’

The reason I chose this song was that it was quite noticeable to see Jung-in, a newly-wed Korean female singer. She has always sung somewhat heavy and grave songs, and I always thought she fit those themes and moods rather than the happier ones. However, I’ve got to realize that she does not only confine herself into the sad songs and continuously tries to develop her voices. If one is interested in Jung-in, I would gladly suggest another song called ‘장마(Rainy season)’; that is what I called one of her famous ‘sad songs’.

3.    Maps_ Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is famous for its unique and one-and-only vocal, Adam Levine. This song is about a broken couple; a man becomes a storyteller blaming her for not being near him when wandering in misery of broken love. He now says that he cannot but follow her though he now feels frustrated of her. The pop color that this group has maintained still goes through the new album as a whole.

I am a lead-vocal in a school rock band, and I’ve played Maroon 5’s songs twice; one was ‘Sunday morning’ and the other was ‘gotten’, featured by a famous guitarist named Slash. I’ve not that into the Maroon 5’s songs because almost every song was about love story with quite similar lyrics and atmospheres. It even shared some of each other’s catchy notes, so I’ve rarely been moved by the song itself but Adam’s spectacular vocals. Nevertheless, it was quite amazing and welcoming to see them again in several years of vacuum with its unique atmosphere. That would be the reason for its invincible popularity of all the songs and albums, I guess.
